The ROYAL PALACE compound is delimited by a 600-meter long, 250-meter wide laterite wall surrounded by moats. The site where was built the Sanctuary of Phimeanakas (a laterite pyramid) had been occupied probably from the middle of 10th century. The royal pond which is generally attributed to the reign of King Jayavarman VII has finely carved ladies, nagas and marine creatures.
